Remembrance Service & Tea 9th November 2025
On Sunday 9th November members of the Partnerschaft met around the memorial stone in Howard Davis Park for a short but moving service of remembrance for those who did not return from deportation to Bad Wurzach.
Attending the ceremony were the Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft and his wife Angela, the Vicar of St Luke’s Church Father Nick Barry along with the Rector of St Brelade’s Church , Reverend Dr Sarah McClelland , members of the Partnerschaft included former deportees with families and friends.
The service was led by Lola Garvin, and included readings by David Drage, a former deportee, and prayers led by Father Nick and Sarah Mc Clelland. The names of those who did not return were read, followed by a minutes silence.Former deportee Roy Newton laid the wreath and Derek Upton played the Last Post.
We then adjourned to the Ommaroo Hotel where the staff had laid on afternoon tea for us . Over tea and excellent scones we enjoyed meeting our friends and families.
We are very grateful to St Helier Parks Department for organising the seating arrangements and to the manager and staff of the Ommaroo for their efficient and welcoming service.
