The St Helier – Bad Wurzach Partnerschaft Committee cordially extends an open invitation to all parties interested in joining our team in organising and participating in our special commemorative events, ceremonies and building close friendship with our German counterparts. We will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of our twinning in 2027 and some special celebrations and trips are being planned. We are always in need of volunteers especially when our German friends are visiting and your participation can be as wide or as limited as you wish. This invitation is not limited to residents of St Helier since our twinning, with its wider historical background, involves all Islanders.
Many Islanders will be aware of the significance of the little German town of Wurzach in Jersey’s recent history. You might even have family or friends who were involved in the deportation and internment of more than 2,000 Channel Islanders from 1942 to 1945 with 618 from Jersey being held prisoner in the Wurzach Schloss. Our Partnerschaft continues to mark and remember significant dates from those distressful years with several former internees still active members of our Committee.
As we look towards the future and hopefully to widening the scope of our twinning, as marked recently by the significant twinning of students from Jersey’s Victoria College and the Salvatorkolleg in Germany, we would welcome new members and ideas as we pursue our important mission of building bridges between our twin towns.
