CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
FOR THE YEAR 2015/16

We have had a very busy and successful year as a committee, especially in the last few weeks.

Travel Bursary In July, Sydney Wright took advantage of our travel bursary, and stayed with a family in the nearby town of Kisslegg with a family of four, she got on extremely well with this family. On her return she attended one of our committee meetings to thank us and give an overview of what she had done. She also published an article in the Town Crier detailing her visit. A worthy recipient of our travel bursary scheme.

Remembrance Services. Both our remembrance services were once again a huge success, the event in the afternoon was well attended a dry afternoon for once, followed by an excellent tea at the Omeroo Hotel.

November Get together. At the end of November our annual get together at the town hall was once again a huge success about I think our largest attendance. Where we were treated to Carol Singing, a raffle and snacks.

Liberation Celebrations, This year we celebrated our Liberation at the War Tunnels, we had a liberation service followed by laying of roses on the memorials of those internees that did not return, we were joined by former internees of Laufen and Biberach. It was a well attended event.

BEM Presentation, a couple of days ago we attended the formal ceremony of Angela receiving her well deserved BEM, presented by our Lieutenant Governor, I think it was one of the  highlights of our committee’s year, with so many friends from both Jersey and Germany. Whilst it was a formal gathering it did have its light hearted moments. It showed how far with Angela’s commitment over the years Partnerschaft has flourished.

Social Media: These are continuing to be developed. A minor setback earlier in the year has been resolved, we have a Website, Twitter account and Facebook pages.

Looking forward to the coming year We currently do not have any candidates wishing to apply for a travel bursary to Bad Wurzach to work in July. Following on from our Remembrance service, we are in the process of organizing a memorial bench to be placed near the Internee memorial to allow individuals to seat and reflect. This bench will be dedicated to those who returned but are no longer with us.

Finally I hope that the offers of assistance for different events to be managed by individual committee members will continue, to put on these events takes time if the tasks are split into manageable sections it eases the burden.

I would like to thank all of the committee for their time and support

My apologies to anyone whom I have neglected to mention but thank you.
